MultiChoice has unveiled two new NOVELAS+ channels in English and Portuguese, dedicated entirely to telenovelas.
In a statement on Thursday, the company said the channels would roll out on July 1, expanding access to one of television’s most popular and enduring genres across Africa.
According to the company, the iconic Novelas TV channel which is being rebranded as NOVELAS+, is currently the number one channel in French speaking African countries in terms of audience size.
It noted that through the collaboration and launch, DStv and GOtv subscribers in Nigeria would gain access to a wide range of telenovelas from Latin America, the United States, Portugal and Turkey.
Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice Nigeria, said the initiative was designed to cater to the strong demand for emotionally driven drama series among Nigerian audiences.
“Nigerian audiences have long had a strong affinity for emotionally rich telenovelas.
“We are delighted to bring all the compelling flavours of these global series to viewers, carefully curated and localised for our Nigerian audiences,” Babatunde said.
She explained that the channel would combine exclusive and iconic telenovelas, with four series airing daily from Monday to Friday and a new episode of each series broadcast every day.
She added that viewers would be immersed in stories centered on love, passion, rivalry and revenge featuring internationally acclaimed actors.
She said the launch underscored the company’s commitment to delivering diverse and high-quality entertainment content tailored to the preferences of audiences across the continent.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the feature programmes on NOVELAS+ in English is the Brazilian hit series, Avenida Brasil.
Débora Falabella leads the series as a woman abandoned as a child and seeking revenge, with Adriana Esteves co-starring as the actress famous for one of TV’s most memorable villains.
Also on the lineup is the Turkish romance comedy, Be My Sunshine, featuring Ayça Ayşin Turan and Alp Navruz, as well as the 2025 remake of Doménica Montero, starring Mexican actress Angelique Boyer.
Viewers can also look forward to Sin and Roses, a Turkish drama starring Murat Yıldırım and Cemre Baysel, which follows the dramatic collapse of a businessman’s life after a family secret is revealed. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
