Another building collapse has left many feared dead in Lagos.
The incident involving a five-storey building reportedly occurred around 12pm on Thursday at Alakija inward Navy Town in Yaba area of the state.
This was made known in a post shared on X by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA),
According to LASTMA, the incident had caused traffic backlog amid rescue operation by emergency response agencies to evacuate trapped victims.
“A five-storey building has collapsed at Alakija inward Navy Town. The incident is currently affecting traffic flow, with a backlog extending to Oluti.
“Emergency response agencies, Men of the Nigerian police, Nigerian Navy personnel, officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and PHCN personnel, are on ground coordinating rescue operations and managing the situation.
“An excavator has been deployed to assist in the rescue of persons trapped within the collapsed structure. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
Motorists are advised to exercise patience, comply with traffic directives, and consider alternative routes where possible.
The cause of the incident and number of casualties involved is yet to be confirmed as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the incident is coming barely a month after a four-storey building under construction collapsed in Lekki.
Video making the rounds online captured the disturbing moment the building collapsed as residents and construction workers scampered for safety.
