A man was reportedly apprehended by residents of a community in Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught with a mentally unstable woman inside a bush in the area.
According to report and Trending Video, the incident occurred during the early hours of the day when some residents noticed suspicious movement within a secluded section of the bush. Their attention was reportedly drawn to the area after hearing unusual sounds, prompting them to investigate.
Residents who spoke to reporters claimed they discovered the man allegedly engaging in inappropriate activity with the woman, who is said to be mentally unstable and well known within the community.
One eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Emmanuel, said the discovery left residents shocked and angry.
“Some people were passing nearby when they noticed movement in the bush. When they got closer, they found the man and immediately raised an alarm. People gathered quickly because nobody expected such a thing,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Uduak, described the incident as disturbing and called for proper investigation by authorities.
“The woman has been seen around this community for some time. Many people know her condition. Seeing something like this happen has left residents deeply worried,” she stated.
The suspect was reportedly held by community members shortly after the incident before being handed over to local security personnel for further investigation. Videos and photographs allegedly taken at the scene have since begun circulating on social media, generating widespread reactions.
A resident who claimed to have witnessed the arrest said the suspect attempted to explain himself after being confronted by the crowd.
“He was trying to speak and explain himself, but people were angry and demanded that security agencies handle the matter properly,” the witness said.
The man, whose identity had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report, allegedly denied any criminal intention while speaking to those who apprehended him.
Community leaders have reportedly appealed for calm and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands. They also called on relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
