THE Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, accusing it of engaging in propaganda and making unsubstantiated allegations.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Umuahia, the LP Publicity Secretary, Mr Iroegbu Emenike, said the APC failed to provide evidence for its claim that the Abia State Government spent N5 billion to destabilise the party.
Emenike said demanding proof for allegations against government officials should not be interpreted as intimidation or harassment.
He maintained that Gov. Alex Otti built his political career through opposition politics rooted in policy advocacy and constructive criticism.
According to him, opposition politics should focus on presenting alternatives, critiquing policies with facts and offering solutions to governance challenges.
He alleged that the APC had resorted to sensationalism, blackmail and unsupported accusations rather than issue-based engagement.
The LP spokesman said the court remained a legitimate avenue for resolving disputes arising from alleged defamation and false claims.
He stated that members of the Otti administration had established reputations before joining politics and would defend their integrity against allegations lacking evidence.
Emenike said being in opposition did not exempt political parties from accountability for their public statements.
He urged the APC to substantiate its allegations with facts or refrain from making claims capable of misleading the public.
The LP spokesman advised the APC to embrace responsible opposition politics based on credibility, accountability and alternative policy proposals.
He expressed confidence that Abians could distinguish between governance issues and political rhetoric.
