The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal squatters and demolition of makeshift structures as well as unauthorised trading activities along the Orile-Okokomaiko axis of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
This coming barely three days after the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered the occupants along the expressway median to evacuate as all unauthorised structures and shanties on the median will be destroyed.
The enforcement of Sanwo-Olu’s directive kicked off on Monday as the Lagos State Taskforce and other officials stormed the aforementioned areas.
They commenced the operation as scheduled with all illegal structures destroyed and unauthorised occupants from the affected corridor dislodged.
Videos shared on X by the media aide to the governor, Jubril Gawat, showed the officials destroying makeshift kiosks built along the corridor.
According to Gawat, the enforcement personnel maintained order throughout the exercise while ensuring that the median was restored for its intended public use and that the right-of-way was protected.
The exercise was jointly undertaken by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
