Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State as senior party stakeholders have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the growing crisis threatening the party’s future in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that three serving senators, four members of the House of Representatives, governorship aspirants and other influential APC figures are pushing for a major review of the party’s recent primaries in Kwara.
The aggrieved stakeholders are demanding the replacement of the APC governorship candidate, Salihu Danladi, arguing that he may not be able to deliver victory for the party in 2027.
They also called for a comprehensive review of the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries, insisting that the outcomes currently being disputed do not reflect the true wishes of party members.
The stakeholders expressed concerns that the APC risks losing Kwara to the opposition if urgent steps are not taken to address internal divisions and rebuild confidence among party loyalists.
The appeal followed a strategic meeting held in Abuja, where 14 prominent APC stakeholders deliberated on the future of the party in Kwara and its chances in the next election cycle.
Those involved in the move include Senator Saliu Mustapha, Ambassador Abdulfatai Gambari, Senator Sadiq Umar, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Hon. Yinka Aluko, Hon. Muyideen Salako, Hon. Mohammed Bio Umar, Hon. Ahmed Saba Adamu, Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN), and several other senior party figures.
In their resolution, the stakeholders reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu and pledged loyalty to his administration and re-election ambition.
They said: “We, the serving Senators, serving House of Representatives members and governorship aspirants, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kwara State resolved with utmost respect, loyalty to Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on the unparallel economic stability and resounding foundation his administration has laid for a better Nigeria.
“ We reaffirm our allegiance to him and assure him of our unreserved support for his re-election in 2027. The Renewed Hope Agenda remains our noble path. We are committed to its success.”
However, they warned that despite progress at the national level, the party in Kwara is facing serious internal challenges that could weaken its electoral chances.
According to them, the political coalition that helped the APC take power in Kwara under the famous Oto ge movement is gradually falling apart.
They blamed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the current situation, accusing him of sidelining major stakeholders and failing to sustain unity within the party.
They said: “While we celebrate national progress, we cannot ignore the apparent collapse within our Party in Kwara State. The legacy of the Otoge Movement which Mr. President personally helped to build is under severe threat.
“The broad coalition of stakeholders, party leaders, loyalists, and progressive forces brought together by the Otoge Movement that ended political domination in Kwara State has been dismantled by the principal beneficiary, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who has failed to provide inclusive and unifying leadership.
“Since the inception of his administration, the men and women who built the APC in Kwara State have been alienated, marginalized, and shut out of government and Party affairs.”
The group further alleged that the APC’s political structure in Kwara has weakened significantly, while opposition forces are steadily gaining momentum.
They said: “ The APC’s base in Kwara State has been eroded. The opposition is resurgent.
“Governor AbdulRazaq has lost the moral and political authority to direct the future of the APC in Kwara State. His public support has collapsed.
“There is widespread apprehension that any candidate associated with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq will be rejected by the electorate.”
The stakeholders urged President Tinubu to personally intervene before the situation worsens.
They specifically requested a reassessment of the disputed primaries and called for the emergence of a consensus governorship candidate capable of restoring unity and strengthening the party.
They said: “To avert imminent collapse, we urge Mr. President to: Review the APC crisis in Kwara State, including the result of primaries announced without elections. The party’s survival depends on it.
“Assess the records, capacity, and statewide acceptability of governorship aspirants and select a consensus candidate who can rebuild unity, restore confidence, and partner with all stakeholders.
“We pledge our full loyalty to any candidate that emerges from this process, and we will deploy our structures, resources, and political capital to secure victory for all APC candidates in 2027.
“Take urgent steps for and redress both the National and State Assembly Primary elections. Candidates that should emerge must reflect Kwara’s broad political realities without sacrificing experience and institutional stability of both the National and State Assemblies.
“The APC in Kwara State is collapsing and only Mr. President’s timely and decisive intervention can prevent it and secure its path to victory.
“We trust in his sense of justice, fairness, and commitment to democratic values. We await your urgent action.”
