Dalung made the remark in a post published on his Facebook page on Sunday, saying: “The worst ticket ever in Nigeria’s history is the Muslim-Muslim ticket. Yes, that Tinubu/Shettima ticket, the worst ever!”
The Muslim-Muslim ticket emerged in 2022 when Bola Tinubu, then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), selected Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno state, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
The decision generated intense debate across the country, with critics arguing that the pairing failed to reflect Nigeria’s religious diversity.
Supporters of the ticket, however, maintained that competence and electoral considerations were more important than religious balancing.
Despite the controversy, Tinubu and Shettima went on to win the 2023 presidential election and were sworn into office on May 29, 2023.
Dalung, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been a consistent critic of the Tinubu administration and has repeatedly voiced opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
