The Ogun State Police Command has debunked a security scare in Ifo area of the state.
This is coming after the circulation of information alleging that a bus conveying suspected criminals was sighted along the Ibogun Road axis.
The bus was reportedly intercepted by youths of the community with its 21 occupants detained until police arrival.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Ogun Police Command identified the occupants of the bus as road workers attached to a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo-Ibogun Road.
The police dismissed any link of the workers to criminal activities, stressing that they are legitimately employed by the company.
“Acting on intelligence received on June 3, 2026, police surveillance and anti-robbery teams swiftly responded to the area and discovered that the bus, which had been intercepted by some youths, was conveying 21 labourers engaged by a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.
“Further verification by the police confirmed that the workers were legitimately employed for the ongoing federal road project.
“The report linking them to criminal activities was found to be false and unfounded.” The statement partly read.
While escorting the workers back to their site, the police warned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and harassment of law-abiding citizens.
