Ibiyeomie dismisses claims Nigeria could become an Islamic State

Pastor David Ibiyeomie has sparked debate after commenting on insecurity, national unity and religion’s place in Nigeria’s future.

Speaking during a recent sermon, the cleric dismissed suggestions that Nigeria could be transformed into an Islamic state, arguing that the country’s religious and ethnic diversity makes such a possibility impossible.

According to him, Nigerians from different regions and backgrounds would not abandon their beliefs or identities.

Ibiyeomie also weighed in on the country’s security challenges, asserting that the Nigerian military has the capacity to decisively tackle armed groups if provided with adequate support and direction.

He further questioned calls for foreign security involvement in addressing Nigeria’s internal security problems.

His remarks come amid ongoing national discussions on insecurity, terrorism, national cohesion and the relationship between religion and politics in the country.

The cleric maintained that Nigeria’s diversity remains a strong factor against any attempt to impose a single religious identity on the nation.
