Atiku mourns Nollywood veteran actor Kola Oyewo

​Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran actor, Dr Kola Oyewo, whom he described as “a scholar of African drama”.

​The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate mourned the passing of the thespian on Saturday via a post he shared on his official X page.

TheNiche had earlier reported that fellow actor, Kunle Afod, announced his demise on Friday in a post shared on Instagram.

​Taking to his verified handle, he wrote: “Kola Oyewo has taken his final bow.”

​Reacting to the development, Atiku described the late dramatist, filmmaker, and academic as a legend whose contributions to African theatre will never be forgotten.

​He wrote: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Kola Oyewo, a legendary thespian and scholar of African drama.

​”His iconic role as King Lapite in the timeless Saworoide immortalised his immense talent and teachings.

​”A great void has been left in Theatre Arts.

​”He will be sorely missed by lovers of African stories worldwide.

​”I join his family and fans in mourning this exceptional dramatist and teacher of social conscience. May his soul rest in peace.”
