The family of Chief Dr. Adekola Gabriel Oyewo (JP), the revered Balogun of Ọba-Ilé in Ọ̀ṣun State, has formally announced the funeral arrangements for the late community leader, distinguished elder, and respected statesman, who passed on after a fulfilled and impactful life.
In a statement released by the family, a series of solemn and celebratory events have been scheduled to honour his legacy, contributions to society, and enduring influence across cultural and intellectual spheres.
The funeral rites will commence on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with a Wake Keep and Service of Songs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, a Commendation Mass will be held at the same venue between 10:00am and 12:00 noon. This will be followed by an Artistes Night, Tributes, and Cultural Display at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, celebrating the late chief’s life through performances and reflections.
An Exhibition of Dr. Kola Oyewo’s works and photographs will also run from 1:00pm on Thursday, August 6, through 4:00pm on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Pit Theatre, African Studies Building, OAU, Ile-Ife, offering a curated glimpse into his artistic and intellectual legacy.
Final burial activities will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, beginning with a motorcade procession to Ọba-Ilé at 7:00am. A Lying-in-State is scheduled for 9:45am at Ese Ola’s Compound, followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ọba-Ilé at 11:00am.
The interment, strictly for family members and close associates, will hold at 12:45pm at Labiduyegbe Villa, Ọba-Ilé, after which guests will be received at a reception ceremony at Aderounmu Grammar School Field by 1:00pm.
The family expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received from friends, associates, and the wider community during this period of mourning. They also called on well-wishers to join in celebrating the remarkable life and legacy of the late Chief Dr. Oyewo.
“Chief Dr. Adekola Gabriel Oyewo lived a life of honour, service, and enduring impact. His memory will continue to inspire generations,” the statement read.
