The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the poll.

The by-election was conducted on June 20 to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former senator representing the district, Godiya Akwashiki.

Prof. Aminu Ali, returning officer for the election, announced the result at the collation centre at the College of Education, Akwanga, on Sunday.

According to the final results, Envulu-Anza polled 45,362 votes to secure victory. Maku, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), came second with 12,931 votes.

Emmanuel David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 11,570 votes. Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmed, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), polled 4,244 votes.

Duba Ishaya Dodo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) garnered 1,496 votes and John Paul Araneshri of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured 102 votes.

Declaring the result, Professor Ali said the APC candidate met all legal requirements to be returned elected.

Envulu-Anza’s victory ensures that the APC retains the Senate seat following the death of Akwashiki after a prolonged illness.
