Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election, commending voter turnout and the orderly conduct of the exercise.
Fayemi voted at Ward 11, Isan-Ekiti, in Ekiti State, alongside his wife, Bisi Fayemi.
He expressed satisfaction with the voting process, describing the turnout as impressive and orderly.
“I was encouraged by the impressive turnout and the orderly manner in which voters came out to perform their civic duty and exercise their democratic right,” he said.
The former governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the exercise so far, urging the electoral body to sustain transparency and efficiency as voting continues across the state.
Fayemi further addressed concerns over the incident that occured in Isan-Ekiti.
He revealed that he had met with leaders of the Isan Progressive Union before proceeding to vote.
He clarified that the incident was unrelated to the election, noting it was an isolated altercation between two individuals.
“Isan-Ekiti has always been a peaceful community, and what transpired was an isolated altercation between two individuals. It had nothing to do with politics or the election,” he said.
He commended the community leaders and residents for their swift response, which he said helped restore calm and ensured that the election proceeded without disruption in the area.
Fayemi also confirmed that security authorities, including senior police leadership, had assured him that an investigation was underway into the incident.
