Benin City, Edo State – Residents of Egor Local Government Area have fresh reasons to smile as the council, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, concludes plans to distribute critical infrastructure and security assets across the 10 wards. The items are set to be distributed soon by the Egor Local Government Council, Uselu.
In what the council describes as a direct response to years of community feedback, 10 units of 500KVA transformers have been procured. Each of the 10 wards will receive one transformer as part of a stepped-up rural electrification drive. The beneficiary wards are Ebuotubu, Ogida, Egor, Useh, Uwelu, Evbareke, Uselu 1, Uselu 2, Okhoro and Ugbowo.
For years, many of these communities have battled erratic power supply and outdated electrical infrastructure. Council officials say the new transformers are expected to stabilize voltage, reduce outages, and support small businesses that depend on steady electricity. Traders, cold-room operators, welders and students preparing for exams are among those likely to feel the impact first. The chairman noted that improved power is the foundation for local economic growth and better quality of life.
Security also received major attention in this distribution plan. Two brand new Toyota Sienna LE vehicles have been procured and will be handed over to frontline security agencies. One Sienna goes to the Ugbowo Police Division to strengthen patrol and rapid response within the busy Ugbowo axis. The second Sienna will be delivered to the Edo State Security Corps to support their operations across Egor.
In addition, 12 motorcycles have been acquired to improve mobility for security operatives. Ten of the motorcycles will be delivered to the Edo State Security Corps to aid surveillance and access to inner streets and rural routes. The remaining two motorcycles will be given to the Department of State Services, Benin City, to support their field operations within the local government.
Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo said the intervention reflects the council’s commitment to “light up Egor and secure Egor.” He added that the projects were prioritized after consultations with ward leaders, community heads and security stakeholders. According to him, no community can thrive without power and safety, and the council will continue to invest in projects that touch lives directly.
Distribution is expected to commence soon, with ward chairmen and security heads scheduled to receive the items on behalf of their communities. Residents have been urged to protect the new transformers and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the assets serve the people for years to come.
