Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership after securing the point they needed in a goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens.
The final-day encounter was closely contested, but neither side could find a breakthrough. The result took Edo Queens to 10 points and confirmed their position at the top of the Super Six standings.
The Benin City club entered the final round knowing that a draw would be enough to secure the title after building a narrow lead over their closest rivals.
Their success was founded on a strong recovery after an early setback in the competition. Edo Queens responded with several impressive performances, including a dominant 6-2 victory over Abia Angels on Matchday Three.
They followed that result with a 2-1 win against Rivers Angels, placing themselves in control of the championship race before the decisive meeting with Bayelsa Queens.
Edo Queens finished the Super Six as the competition’s most productive attacking team, scoring 12 goals across their five matches.
Bayelsa Queens ended the campaign in second place with eight points, finishing ahead of Nasarawa Amazons on goal difference.
Abia Angels completed the competition with six points, while Rivers Angels and FC Robo Queens both collected four points. Rivers Angels finished above FC Robo Queens because of their superior goal difference.
Individual honours were also presented after the conclusion of the tournament.
FC Robo Queens midfielder Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season following her consistent performances during the campaign.
Abia Angels goalkeeper Fatima Oloko received the Goalkeeper of the Season award.
The Golden Boot was shared by Rivers Angels striker Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens forward Atume Doosuur, who both finished the season with 13 goals.
Rivers Angels also received the Fair Play Award in recognition of their conduct throughout the competition.
The title gives Edo Queens the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers.
The regional tournament is scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from August 23 to September 5.
Edo Queens will compete against leading clubs from West Africa for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Nigerian champions will now turn their attention to preparing for the continental qualifiers as they seek to build on their domestic success.
Their victory confirms Edo Queens as one of the leading teams in Nigerian women’s football and gives the club another opportunity to compete on the African stage.
