President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong warning to bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terrorism across Nigeria, urging them to surrender while they still have the opportunity or face decisive action from security forces.
Speaking during his Democracy Day address to the nation, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring peace across all regions of the country.
Addressing criminal elements directly, Tinubu declared that the Nigerian government would not tolerate acts of violence, kidnapping, or terrorism, stressing that the current opportunity for surrender would not remain available indefinitely.
“To bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror: surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian state. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” the President stated.
The President’s remarks come amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the country, including recent reports of abductions involving schoolchildren and teachers.
Tinubu expressed concern over the kidnapping incidents reported in Oyo and Borno states, describing them as unfortunate developments that have cast a shadow over this year’s Democracy Day celebrations.
“Though this year’s mood is dampened by the abduction of our children and teachers in Oyo and Borno, we remain hopeful for their safe return,” he said.
The President assured Nigerians that security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the release of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
He also reiterated his administration’s determination to strengthen national security through improved intelligence gathering, enhanced military operations, and closer collaboration among security agencies.
Tinubu urged citizens to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information that could assist law enforcement authorities in combating crime and safeguarding communities.
Democracy Day, observed annually on June 12, commemorates Nigeria’s democratic journey and honors the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic governance. This year’s celebration was marked by renewed calls for national unity, security, and collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges.
As the nation reflects on its democratic progress, the President emphasized that peace and security remain essential foundations for sustainable development and prosperity.
