THE Anambra State Boundary Committee (ASBC) Technical Team has initiated practical steps towards resolving the boundary dispute between Ndiukwuenu and Okpeze Communities in Orumba North LGA.
The team met on Friday with representatives of the two neighbouring communities in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezm, who is the Chairman of the committee.
Addressing the delegations, Ibezim emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence among communities.
According to him, peace remains an essential ingredient for growth and development in any society.
Ibezim, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Mr Ekenechukwu Okoye, urged both communities to embrace dialogue and peace.
He urged them to pursue peaceful resolution of the dispute, saying that meaningful progress could only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
Responding, the President-General of Ndiukwuenu, who led his community’s delegation, expressed their disposition towards the peaceful resolution of the dispute.
Also, the leader of the Okpeze delegation, Mr Alphonsis Mmuogbo, requested that their community be given some time to properly articulate its position and submit relevant documents to support its case.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the was later adjourned to June 24, to enable the Okpeze Community to present its defence and make the necessary submissions.
NAN reports that the meeting had the Executive Secretary of the State Boundary Committee, Dr Olisa Mba, and the committee’s Project Surveyor, Mr Oluchukwu Uzochukwu, among other top government functionaries in attendance. (NAN)
