Speaking during an interview with select journalists, in Lagos, Ibeku said Governor Otti had not only fulfilled his campaign promises but had exceeded the expectations of many Abians through extensive infrastructure development, healthcare reforms, educational improvements and security interventions.
According to him, the state has witnessed unprecedented transformation under the current administration.
“What we never saw in 24 years in Abia State in terms of infrastructure development, human capital development and governance, Abians are witnessing today within just three years of Governor Otti’s administration,” he said.
Ibeku highlighted several road projects across the state, including the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, Asa Road, Ndoki Road and Ovom Road in Aba, as well as major road projects in Umuahia and other parts of the state.
He also pointed to improvements in healthcare, education, transportation and rural electrification, noting that the government had embarked on the renovation of public schools, recruitment of teachers and healthcare workers, installation of solar streetlights and construction of critical infrastructure aimed at attracting investment.
The LP stalwart further commended the administration for completing projects that had remained unresolved under previous governments, including the reconstruction of the Omenuko Bridge, which he described as a major achievement.
He attributed Otti’s performance to prudent management of public resources, independence from political godfathers and a strong commitment to public service.
“Otti came into office determined to transform Abia. He is focused on using public funds for the benefit of the people rather than servicing political interests. That is why the people are seeing results,” he said.
Reacting to claims by some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, that the APC would take over Abia Government House in the next election, Ibeku dismissed such assertions.
He maintained that Governor Otti remained highly popular among the people and that his performance had strengthened his political standing ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“In their hearts they already know there is no vacancy in Abia Government House. The governor’s achievements speak for themselves and the people can see the difference,” he stated.
On the issue of insecurity, Ibeku expressed concern over the worsening security situation across Nigeria, describing it as a major challenge facing the country.
While commending the Abia State Government for strengthening security within the state, he criticized the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, arguing that more decisive action was required to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
“Insecurity has become a national concern. Nigerians are worried and expect stronger action from those responsible for protecting lives and property,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, the Labour Party chieftain expressed confidence in the prospects of Peter Obi’s candidacy.
He described Obi as a capable leader with a proven track record in public service and said many Nigerians still view him as a credible alternative for national leadership.
“Peter Obi stands out because of his record, integrity and commitment to service. Many Nigerians believe he has the capacity to restore hope and reposition the country,” Ibeku said.
The interview comes amid growing political activities and early realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and stakeholders already positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral contest.
