South Africa has survived elimination scare as they held Czech Republic to a 1-1 draw at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Coming off a shocking defeat against Mexico in tournament’s opener, the Bafana Bafana faced Czech in the second game on Thursday.

The European country who also suffered defeat to Sout Korea in their forst match hoped to redeem themselves against South Africa.

They took the game by the horns, with early dominance and offensive attacks in the first half.

This paid for the team as they took an early lead barely 20 minutes into the game.

South Africa however shrugged off their slumber and they maintained composure to prevent another goal.

With little chances created by both team, the first half ended in 1-0 with Czech hoping to retain the lead in the second half.

The European country how faced a much coordinated South African side in the second half as they were denied goal scoring opportunities.

The Bafana Bafana also failed to make significant impact at the oposition’s half until the last 20 minutues.

Scores of offensive attacks by the South African forced Czech to concede a penalty in the 83rd minute.

Stepping up to keep South Africa’s hope alive Teboho Mokoena who sent Czech goalkeeper the wrong way to bring the game on levels term.
