GOV. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has said that federal policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda have strengthened national confidence through economic restructuring, social investments and security reforms.
Abiodun, who made the assertion during the 2026 workers’ day celebration held in Abeokuta, on Friday, congratulated workers in the state on the 2026 Workers’ Day, praising their sacrifice, discipline and contributions to development.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor said that Ogun remained aligned with federal initiatives and would continue to support programmes that improved citizens’ welfare and economic growth.
Abiodun described the Workers’ day celebration as a reminder of historic struggles that secured fair labour practices and dignity in the workplace.
He urged reflection, appreciation and renewed commitment to service.
Abiodun also congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the celebration, commending his administration’s focus on workers’ welfare, economic reforms and human capacity development.
He commended labour leaders, including the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC, for constructive engagement and partnership in governance.
Abiodun noted that collaboration between government and labour had contributed significantly to the progress recorded in the state.
The governor identified security and poverty as major challenges, noting their interconnection and the need for deliberate and sustained action.
He said that the state had strengthened security through collaboration with agencies, investment in infrastructure and support for local outfits like Amotekun.
Abiodun added that, youth engagement and employment programmes were being expanded to tackle the root causes of insecurity and social instability.
“We have developed strategies to tackle insecurity. We are already paying a N10,000 palliative to civil and public servants to cushion current economic challenges.
“We have equally introduced a work-free day policy to promote work-life balance and improve productivity
“Five thousand one hundred and sixty-five officers were recruited between 2020 and 2025 to strengthen the public service.
“N36.7 billion in deductions had been settled, with prompt remittance maintained while more than N94 billion had been paid in pensions since 2019,” he said.
Also, NLC Chairman in Ogun, Mr Hameed Benco, lauded Abiodun for prioritising workers’ welfare, including prompt salary payments and palliative measures.
Benco also commended government’s investment in infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education and workers welfare while urging adoption of technology to boost security and response systems across the state.
The labour leader, however, decried poor conditions of local government facilities and called for urgent upgrades, increased funding, modern technology adoption and capacity building to enhance grassroots service delivery.
Also, the TUC Chairman, Mr Akeem Lasisi, described workers as the backbone of governance and economic development. NAN
