President Bola Tinubu recorded sweeping victories across several wards in the ongoing All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential direct primary election, as early results showed massive support for his second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
The nationwide exercise was conducted across the party’s 8,809 wards on Saturday, with APC members voting directly in their various polling centres.
Tinubu contested against Stanley Osifo Osayamen, who emerged as the only challenger after reportedly purchasing the party’s N100 million presidential nomination form.
Early figures released from different parts of the country showed overwhelming votes in favour of the president. In Tinubu’s Ikoyi ward in Lagos State, the president reportedly secured 4,996 votes, while his challenger polled zero votes.
Similar outcomes were recorded in several northern and southern states, where party officials and supporters turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.
At one voting unit in Kebbi State, where senior APC leaders were seen queueing openly for accreditation and voting, Tinubu was said to have secured 5,652 votes without opposition.
The development sparked celebrations among APC supporters, who described the outcome as a sign of growing unity within the ruling party ahead of the next election cycle.
Speaking after casting his vote, Tinubu described the direct primary process as a reflection of internal democracy within the APC.
“This is grassroots politics, where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved. This is to ensure we have internal democracy,” the president said.
Tinubu also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and commended APC governors for their role in organising the primary election across the country.
Party officials said results from the wards would be moved to state collation centres before final collation in Abuja on Sunday.
