President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure concludes on 31 July 2026.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a highly regarded academic and technology expert with deep expertise in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform.

He brings a strong blend of academic excellence and practical experience to one of Nigeria’s most critical educational institutions.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
His connection with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps year, where he gained early insight into the board’s operations.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, Professor Aina has advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transformation, and operational efficiency. He previously served as a consultant to major examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, as well as various state ministries of education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and process optimisation.
At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering. His appointment makes him the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

He is a registered member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
In the statement, the Presidency expressed confidence that Professor Aina would leverage his “vast experience, knowledge and practical insight” to build upon the significant achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the board’s operations.
The appointment underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to injecting youthful energy and technological expertise into key national institutions responsible for education and human capital development.
