The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has enjoined Muslims across Nigeria to intensify prayers for the country’s leaders ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
He made the call on Wednesday in his Eid-el-Kabir message to the Muslim faithful as they celebrate all over the country.
The Sultan urged Nigerians to hold on to spiritual virtues, support the government, and pray for divine guidance for leaders at all levels.

Abubakar, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), added that prayers remain essential in guiding the nation towards choosing responsible and capable leaders.
He said, “Our prayers are always the guiding light towards the choice of our leaders; therefore, we should sustain more prayers in our quest for the best country we desire.”
The highly revered traditional ruler further implored Muslims to sustain the spirit of worship, sacrifice and devotion demonstrated during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
He also described Eid-el-Kabir as a historic period of sacrifice, love and celebration, while praying for Muslims to witness many more celebrations in peace and prosperity.
