Nigerian singer Adebayo Adeleke, better known as B-Red, escaped an assassination attempt in Osogbo on Wednesday afternoon, April 29th.
The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 PM near the Oke-Fia axis, close to the Government House, where the music star was said to have been trailed and pursued by suspected hoodlums.
Speaking out, B-Red said he went to buy stuff around Alekuwodo market and saw bike riders with AMBO cals trying to surround his vehicle at a traffic point under Okefia Bridge.
He explained that the situation escalated when another vehicle, a white Toyota Venza, joined the scene when they were trying to move out and started coming towards them with someone shouting his name.
B-Red said the attackers intensified their efforts as he attempted to escape and kept chasing him until he got to the gate of the Osun State Government House.
He added that he recognised one of the people involved in the attack, a man named Asiri Eniba, whom he described as a notorious political thug.
“As I went out to buy some stuff around Alekuwodo market, I just saw some Okada riders with AMBO caps trying to surround my vehicle at a traffic point under Okefia Bridge.
As we tried to move out, we saw a white Toyota Venza approaching, and someone shouted, ‘It is him, it is him.’
As we moved, the Toyota Venza pursued us, trying to block my jeep. At the same time, multiple motorcycles also joined in the chase. The chasing continued until we got to the gate of the Osun State Government House, Oke-Fia.
We identified one of the occupants of the vehicle to be Asiri Eniba”, he said.
The matter has since been reported to the police for investigation.
The Osun State Government, in response, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect. The demands were conveyed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Olumo Kolapo Alimi, who urged security agencies to act without delay.
In 2024, there was a failed assassination attempt on Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Odi Okojie. According to reports, the federal lawmaker was reportedly attacked by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi. His media aide said the attempt was unsuccessful owing to the intervention of security personnel attached to the lawmaker.
A week before the attempt, Johnson faced massive backlash for campaigning for Senator Monday Okpebholo during the Edo State gubernatorial election. In a viral video, Johnson encouraged women to talk to their husbands and children about voting for the candidate.
