Aliero has been affirmed the All Progressives Congress, APC, flag bearer for the Kebbi Central Senatorial District election following a consensus arrangement among party stakeholders.
The affirmation took place on Monday at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin-Kebbi during the party’s senatorial primary, which was attended by Governor Nasir Idris and other top APC officials.
All aspirants for the Kebbi Central senatorial ticket reportedly withdrew from the contest, paving the way for Aliero’s emergence as the consensus candidate.
The Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee in Kebbi State, Garba Muhammad, who announced the development, said the candidate emerged through a consensus process.
He commended Governor Nasir Idris for uniting party members and making the conduct of the exercise seamless.
Governor Idris, in his remarks, said all senatorial candidates across the three districts in the state emerged through consensus after other aspirants stepped down in the interest of party unity.
Speaking after his affirmation, Senator Aliero expressed appreciation to Governor Idris and other party leaders for their support and confidence.
He pledged to prioritise empowerment programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people if elected.
