Police arraign men over alleged wilful damage, stealing

The Police in Lagos on Monday, charged two men, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged wilful damage.

The defendants are: Paul Kefas, 25; and Banabas Amos, 19.

The duo are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, wilful damage and stealing.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendants and others now at large committed the offences on April 21, at about 1:00 a.m. along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Lekki.

Ikhayere alleged that the defendants conspired to steal and wilfully damage iron rods and H-Tech clips used for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road,

The property is owned by H-Tech Construction Company and are worth eight million naira.

She alleged that the defendants stole six pieces of long iron rods valued at four million naira, and eight H-Tech clips also valued at eight million naira bringing the total value to eight million naira. 

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr  L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with responsible sureties each.

He adjourned the case until June 30, for mention. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
