The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has appealed to the people of the state to forgive the shortcomings of his administration and those of elected lawmakers, urging them to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Nwifuru made the appeal during a democracy thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
The service was attended by top government officials, political stakeholders, religious leaders and members of the ruling party in the state.
Addressing the congregation, the governor admitted that his administration, members of the National Assembly from the state and lawmakers in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly may not have met all the expectations of the people.
He, however, appealed to residents to show understanding, forgive their shortcomings and support them again in the next general elections.
Nwifuru said, “Please forgive us; forgive me and the National Assembly members and the House of Assembly members. Forgive our shortcomings and vote for us again.”
The governor noted that governance was a continuous process that required humility, patience and public support, adding that elected officials could only do better when citizens remained committed to the progress of the state.
Reflecting on his three years in office, Nwifuru expressed gratitude to God for what he described as the achievements recorded so far by his administration.
He said no government could claim to be perfect, but stressed that his administration remained committed to improving the welfare of Ebonyi residents and delivering more dividends of democracy.
The governor said his administration had continued to pursue policies and programmes aimed at expanding infrastructure, improving service delivery and strengthening governance across the state.
He added that the lessons learned in the past three years would guide the government in doing more for the people in the remaining years of his tenure.
Nwifuru also reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining ongoing development projects and implementing additional initiatives to improve the lives of the people.
The Thanksgiving service drew prominent political leaders in the state, including former governors.
Among those present were the Minister of Works and former governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, and another former governor of the state, Martin Elechi.
Serving senators, members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, government officials and other stakeholders also attended the event.
