The Babangida Aliyu-led Screening Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has granted former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, a waiver to contest in the 2027 General Elections as the party’s presidential candidate.
Jonathan’s candidacy was announced following the committee’s meeting held on Tuesday.
Addressing newsmen, Aliyu explained that the former president was granted the waiver and cleared as the party’s candidate due to his past records.
“As you know, the party has already given our presidential aspirant the waiver. He was Deputy Governor, became Governor, became Vice President, and became President.
“So, we didn’t see anything that needed screening. And therefore, the party has given him waiver and cleared as the candidate of the PDP form the Presidential election. And that is President Jonathan.” The PDP Screening Committee Chairman said.
Jonathan’s emergence as the party’s candidate saw him join the race to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
