President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose two-term tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a Computer Engineering professor at Obafemi Awolowo University and is set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
According to the statement, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent.
He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, from Loughborough University.
He additionally completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The presidency said Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in national admissions and examination processes.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has worked across technology, policy and institutional reform, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, system design and operational reforms.
He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies, including National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly in the areas of ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.
Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the examination body’s operations through his expertise in technology and institutional reform.
