Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade relations and customs cooperation following a high-level engagement between the Nigeria Customs Service and the UAE Embassy in Abuja.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, held discussions with the UAE Ambassador, Salem Saeed, focusing on enhancing trade facilitation, improving customs administration, and expanding economic cooperation.
The Ambassador congratulated Adeniyi on his emergence as Chairman of the World Customs Organization, noting that the development reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in global trade governance.
He highlighted the progress made in non-oil trade between both countries, stating that the partnership has delivered positive outcomes despite existing challenges.
According to him, a Memorandum of Understanding has been proposed to strengthen institutional collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and UAE Customs.
In his remarks, Adeniyi expressed appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to improving trade relations.
He noted that recent improvements in trade between both countries are a result of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and facilitating legitimate trade.
The Comptroller-General also emphasised the importance of collaboration in addressing activities that undermine Nigeria’s international image, adding that stronger cooperation would promote security, trust, and economic growth.
