The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has carried out a major operation across the Federal Capital Territory, leading to the arrest of 132 suspects and the recovery of 220 kilograms of illegal substances.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the action took place over two weeks, from April 11 to April 25, 2026, following intelligence gathering and surveillance across several locations in Abuja and nearby areas.
The operation was handled by the agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation alongside the FCT Strategic Command, targeting drug centres linked to abuse, trafficking, and other crimes in the city.
During the raids, officers moved into multiple areas known for drug activities, including Torabora Hills, Area 3, Gwarinpa, AYA, Durumi, Banex, Dei-Dei, Kubwa, Apo, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Wuse Zone 4, Garki Area 10, Jabi, and the Suleja axis. These locations were identified as major points where illegal substances were sold and distributed.
Items recovered during the operation included large quantities of skunk, a type of cannabis, as well as drugs such as Diazepam, Exol, Tramadol, Mogadon, cocaine, Rohypnol, methamphetamine, Ecstasy, and bottles of codeine syrup. The total weight of all substances seized was put at 220 kilograms.
The agency said its officers faced resistance in some areas, especially in Durumi Area 1 and the Suleja market axis. However, the situation was brought under control, and the suspects were taken into custody without any loss of life. The crackdown also disrupted the supply network of those involved in the illegal trade.
The Director of Operations and General Investigation, Ahmed Sule Ningi, later briefed the agency’s chairman on the outcome of the exercise. He praised the officers involved for their coordination and effort, and noted that continued pressure would help maintain the progress already made.
Responding to the report, the Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended the officers for their work in clearing drug activities from the capital and its surroundings.
He also directed that the same method used in the Abuja operation should be extended to other cities across the country to keep up the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
