The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Sule emerged as the winner of the party’s primary election after defeating his only challenger, a former Deputy Governor of the state and immediate past Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Silas Ali Agara.
The result was announced in Akwanga, the headquarters of the senatorial district.
Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Nasarawa State APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Musa Shuaibu Guri, said Sule polled 45,393 votes.
Agara, who was his only opponent in the contest, scored 2,915 votes.
Guri said, “The aspirants received the following votes: Abdullahi Sule got a total of 45,393 votes while Silas Ali Agara got 2,915 votes.”
The chairman of the primary election committee said Sule met the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines.
He thereafter declared the governor the winner of the primary and returned him as the APC candidate for the senatorial district.
“Abdullahi Sule, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s senatorial candidate for Nasarawa North Senatorial District,” Guri stated.
