The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki has announced an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The spokesperson for the faction, Ini Ememobong, confirmed the development to The Cable on Wednesday, saying the alliance grew out of the All Opposition Political Party Leaders Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in April.
“Many more alliances to come, but starting with this,” Ememobong said.
Last month, opposition parties including the Turaki-led PDP faction, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) announced plans to support a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The latest alliance is expected to strengthen ongoing coalition talks among opposition forces ahead of the polls.
The development comes days after Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed resigned from the PDP and obtained the APM senatorial nomination form.
Mohammed purchased the form on May 7, further fuelling speculation about growing realignments within the opposition.
There is also mounting speculation that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a prominent PDP figure, may formally join the APM during a joint mega rally scheduled for Thursday in Ibadan.
Ahead of the rally, several PDP lawmakers in Oyo State reportedly defected to the APM.
The PDP has continued to battle internal divisions, with the party currently split into two major factions.
One faction, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the party’s authentic leadership.
