Ahead of the 2027 election, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said the movement does not want to give any chance of ending up in court after the polls.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Tanko, an aide of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, spoke on Wednesday during an interview on a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State.
Tanko emphasised that election outcomes should be decided at polling units rather than through prolonged legal battles in court.
According to him, elections should reflect the true opinions of voters from the grassroots level, while warning that continued reliance on court decisions in electoral matters could undermine the credibility of the voting process.
He said, “We don’t want to give any chance for us to end up in court at all.
“Elections should be done and dusted at the polling units. We will not want to give any opportunity for us to go to any court whatsoever.
“Let’s deal with this issue once and for all, establish the winner, and move on.”
Meanwhile, Tanko has claimed that a splinter group is trying to associate with the movement.
Speaking via a statement, Tanko said Obidient Movement does not recognise any parallel structure within its ranks.
He stated this while reacting to a press briefing in Abuja held by the Obidient Movement Rebrand group.
The group claimed it had expelled Obi and Tanko.
Dismissing the expulsion, Tanko said the group does not represent the Obidient Movement in any capacity.
He subsequently urged the media and the general public to ignore the group, accusing them of trying to cause confusion.
