US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that India’s main concern with Pakistan remains terrorism, not its reported role in global diplomatic communication involving Iran. Rubio made these remarks during his ongoing visit to India, where he has been holding a series of high-level meetings with Indian leaders.

What did Rubio say about India-Pakistan concerns?

Rubio said India has consistently raised concerns over terror groups operating from Pakistani territory and targeting India. He stressed that this has been a long-standing issue in India’s foreign policy discussions with the United States.

“They’re always concerned about the fact that there are armed terrorist groups operating from Pakistani territory that target India,” said Marco Rubio, as quoted by ANI.

However, Rubio clarified that India did not raise any objection regarding Pakistan’s reported role as a mediator or facilitator in US-Iran communication. He said this issue simply did not come up in discussions and is separate from India’s core concerns about terrorism.

Did India discuss Pakistan’s role in US-Iran talks?

According to Rubio, the topic of Pakistan acting as a channel between the United States and Iran was not discussed with Indian officials. He added that India’s concerns regarding Pakistan are focused specifically on cross-border terrorism.

Rubio suggested that the two issues should not be mixed, as India’s security concerns and diplomatic communication channels are different matters.

What did Rubio say about racism comments in the US?

During his visit, Rubio also responded to questions about racist remarks targeting Indians in the United States. He said such comments are often made online and may come from “trolls or bots.”

“People say stupid stuff all the time on social media and in every country in the world,” he said, defending the broader US position as an immigrant-friendly nation.

Rubio also visited the Taj Mahal in Agra with his wife Jeanette D Rubio, accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. His visit is part of a four-day trip that includes participation in the Quad Summit.
