The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has debunked purported results of its primary elections currently circulating on social media, describing them as fake and illogical.
The clarification was made in a press statement released on Thursday.
In the statement, the opposition party clarified that its party primaries are scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, May 29, 2026. The party maintained that no winners or losers could have possibly emerged from an exercise that has not yet commenced.
The statement, signed by the NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, read:
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to inform the general public that our party primaries are scheduled to hold tomorrow, 29th May 2026.
“It is therefore impossible and illogical for any primary results or winners to have emerged when the primaries are yet to take place.
“We strongly urge the public and all well-meaning Nigerians to completely disregard the fake NDC primary results and false rumours currently circulating. Any result that does not emanate from official party sources should be disregarded.
“NDC remains committed to a transparent and credible primary process. We appeal to all our supporters and registered members to stay vigilant and ignore any unverified information. Thank you.”
The release follows earlier speculations on Wednesday and Thursday. Among the rumours was the purported defeat of popular activist Aisha Yesufu, who is vying for the NDC ticket to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat.
