Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has shared his thoughts on marriage, gender roles, and women becoming the major providers in relationships.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that during a chat on the Tea With Tay podcast, the actor said he would not mind staying at home while his wife becomes the main earner in the family if she starts making far more money than him.
He joked that if his wife begins earning millions of dollars every year, he would gladly relax and become a househusband instead of stressing himself with acting jobs.
Deyemi said money changes many things in relationships and believes some men struggle to accept situations where their wives earn more than they do.
According to him, many men become uncomfortable and overly sensitive once they feel the woman is carrying more financial responsibility in the home.
He explained that small disagreements in such marriages can quickly turn into arguments connected to money and power.
The father of three said: “I pray, God, please let my wife just hit one million, $10 million per annum. If you see me act… I’ll be a househusband. There’s money. What are you doing again? I find that a lot of men are not comfortable with that dynamic and so they’re already hypersensitive.
“Any small thing, ‘Is it because you did this? Is it because of that?’ My only prayer is that as a human being, no gender, no male or female, I should be valuable to my family. I believe that different genders have different strengths. I don’t believe those strengths are equal.”
