Tiwi Remi, wife of Nollywood actor Kunle Remi, has spoken on her decision to stay away from most social media platforms, saying she only uses LinkedIn and avoids apps like Instagram, TikTok, and 𝕏.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that she during a YouTube podcast Bare by BKO, where she discussed her lifestyle and how she manages life as the wife of a public figure.
She said many people are often surprised that she has little or no presence online despite her husband’s fame.
Tiwi explained that her choice began before her marriage, when she felt unsure about her direction and did not want to stay active online without a clear purpose.
She said she preferred to focus on understanding herself rather than spending time on social platforms.
She also noted that she later saw her decision as part of the life she would eventually live, since her husband already has a strong public profile and attention from the media.
After marrying Kunle Remi, she said she noticed how his global fan base receives updates about him while she remains almost invisible online, which made her even more aware of her offline lifestyle.
She said: “So the big response for why I was not on social media was that I had no idea who I was and what I was meant to be contributing to other people, and therefore, I didn’t feel like being online and using my influence in a lukewarm way was enough to justify spending so much time on an app.
“I also didn’t know at the time that God was cleaning out my digital footprint because of the person I was going to marry. I had no idea I was going to marry this superstar who had such a strong public image with limited controversy.
“When I got married to my husband, I was told by one of my girlfriends that everyone’s getting notifications all around the world, and Tiwi is getting zero.
“And when she said that to me, it dawned on me.
“I am not on any social media channels, except for LinkedIn. That is the honest answer. I don’t have a burner page or pages.
“I don’t have the apps on my personal phone. If I need to get on Instagram, TikTok, you name it, I would have to go on my husband’s phone when he is home and available, and his phone is not in use.
“I am not a scroller. Like, I literally am looking for something specific, and that’s it.”
Kunle Remi and Tiwi publicly confirmed their relationship in January 2024 when he introduced her as his wife.
They later held traditional and white wedding ceremonies in Ibadan and Lagos.
The couple welcomed their first child in March 2025 after a challenging pregnancy period.
