A former Chief of Staff to the Kano State Government, Shehu Wada Sagagi, has claimed that the former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso repeatedly tried to reconcile with the incumbent governor of the state, Abba Yusuf.
He, however stated that Yusuf frustrated the reconciliation efforts.
Speaking in an interview with a local radio station, he explained the lingering political tension between the governor and his political mentor.
According to him, the reconciliation process began at the early stage of the misunderstanding after concerns emerged that the dispute could deepen within the ruling political bloc in Kano State.
He said Kwankwaso had expressed readiness for peace and directed him to engage Governor Yusuf in order to understand the grievances behind the growing rift.
“I met the governor and conveyed Kwankwaso’s message to him. He personally fixed a date for a reconciliation meeting, but later failed to honour it,” Sagagi said during the interview.
The former aide further claimed that he made additional efforts to remind the governor about the proposed peace meeting, but alleged that his calls and messages were ignored.
“I reached out more than once to ensure the meeting held, but he stopped responding to my messages. At that point, the reconciliation effort could not move forward,” he added.
Sagagi maintained that Kwankwaso remained open to dialogue throughout the process, insisting that several opportunities were created to resolve the differences quietly.
