The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun its 2026 Eid el-Kabir special patrol operations in Anambra, deploying 210 personnel to ensure safer roads.
Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, Anambra Sector Commander, confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday in Awka.
Asekhauno said regular and special marshals would operate between May 25 and May 31 to manage increased festive traffic.
“The operation is aimed at promoting road safety through effective traffic control and public enlightenment campaigns across major highways in the state.
“The exercise will also focus on reducing road crashes during the festive period,” she said.
Asekhauno said the patrol would ensure prompt emergency response to crash victims and remove road obstructions for smoother traffic movement.
She said patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns and breathalysers had been deployed for effective operations.
The sector commander said special attention would be given to traffic management around the Bridge Head area in Onitsha and other key routes.
She added that enforcement would target speeding, dangerous driving and wrongful overtaking during the exercise.
“The corps will also enforce offences such as overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, and worn-out tyres.
“The mobile courts will be deployed for speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, while rescue teams will remain on maximum alert,” she said.
Asekhauno said the command would collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force, the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency and the Ocha Brigade.
She urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving and prioritise safety throughout the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
Asekhauno also wished Muslims a peaceful celebration and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safer roads across the state. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
