Dr Mike Omeri, the former Director-General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
His emergence followed a consensus reached by party members and stakeholders from the district, as announced by the Returning Officer, Mr Atsiya Amehmara.
Amehmara commended the peaceful conduct of the PDP Primary in the Nasarawa South senatorial district.
In his acceptance speech, Omeri described it as a mandate to work collectively for the progress and prosperity of the zone, and pledged effective representation, if elected.
He called for unity among all aspirants and supporters, stressing that both winners and those who stepped down were one team.
He also called for the consolidation of support to address community needs and ensure that no individual or community was left behind in the drive for development and empowerment.
The former NOA boss enjoined the electorate and party faithful to remain peaceful and focused, ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that “PDP is prepared to deliver credible representation.
“I humbly accept the nomination by all the people of this zone to represent them. It shows that the people have agreed by way of consensus to work together.
“I know what it means to work in the National Assembly, to represent, to deliver, and to take the views of the people to the nation and from the nation to the people.
“That is what I will do. It is a promise I will keep by the grace of God.”
The Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, Dr Joel Gimba, later told newsmen that the party’s decision to adopt consensus candidates for various positions reflected its character as a united family where elders consult and resolve issues collectively.
He described the large turnout of supporters as a litmus test and an affirmation of PDP’s dominance in the area.
He said that even with multiple aspirants, the zone remained firm under the party’s support base.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
