The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) says its Director-General, Mustapha Abdullahi, has resumed work at its Abuja headquarters after his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of money laundering.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, the commission referred to Abdullahi as its “capacity DG”, expressing excitement over his return.
“Our Capacity DG is back!” the commission wrote.
The ECN confirmed that the DG had resumed official duties at the headquarters and also expressed appreciation to God and President Bola Tinubu.
Abdullahi was arrested in Abuja by EFCC operatives in connection with alleged money laundering involving over N500 billion, according to earlier reports.
He was later taken into custody for further investigation.
Appointed in October 2023 by President Bola Tinubu as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Abdullahi previously worked for over a decade at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
In December 2025, a civil society group, Network Against Corruption and Drug Trafficking (NACAT), submitted petitions to the presidency, EFCC, and ICPC alleging corruption within the commission.
The group claimed Abdullahi was linked to a network of solar streetlight contracts worth hundreds of millions of naira, allegedly awarded to multiple companies it said were connected through shared addresses, registration timelines, and directors.
It also alleged that procurement procedures were not properly followed in the execution of the contracts.
