THE Chief Imam of Uyo Central Mosque, Alhaji Bello Dahiru, has called on Muslims in Akwa Ibom to live peacefully, show love to fellow citizens, and remain obedient to constituted authorities.
Dahiru made the appeal on Wednesday in Uyo after leading Eid-el-Kabir prayers to mark the 2026 celebration.
He told worshippers that the festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah, and urged them to emulate that example.
“Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, teaches us sacrifice, forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewing commitment to our faith,” he said.
The cleric encouraged Muslims in the state to use the Eid message to be good citizens of Nigeria.
He also offered prayers for President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Umo Eno, as well as for peaceful elections in 2027.
Leader of the Hausa Community in Akwa Ibom, Alhaji Hassan Sadauki, thanked Allah for the opportunity to witness the celebration.
“We have enjoyed peace, love and security in Akwa Ibom, hence we appreciate the governor,” he said.
On his part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Arewa Matters, Mr. Ibrahim Iliya, described the day as special for Muslims worldwide.
“Gov. Eno has secured Akwa Ibom and made it peaceful, that’s why we can pray in this mosque without any fear,” he said.
He urged muslims to reciprocate by remaining peaceful and law abiding.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 5,000 worshippers gathered at the Uyo Central Mosque for the prayers.(NAN)
