The Delta State Police Command has refuted claims that the body of Oghenemine Ogidi, a young man allegedly killed by a police officer, is missing.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the clarification followed reports circulating on social media that the deceased’s family had been denied access to his remains and that the police could not account for the body.
Reacting to the speculations, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a post via his 𝕏 handle dismissed the reports as false and misleading.
Edafe stated that the corpse is currently deposited in a mortuary within the state and is available to the family whenever they want to see it.
He further explained that the matter is being treated as a suspected murder case, which legally requires further examination.
He said, “His body is at the mortuary, and the family have been told that whenever they want to see it, they will be allowed to.
“It’s a case of suspected murder, so an autopsy is compulsory, and the family also agreed to this. Thank you”
Recall that Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician, was reportedly shot dead in broad daylight in Effurun.
The police command confirmed that the officer allegedly responsible, ASP Nuhu Usman, has been arrested and moved to the Force Headquarters for further disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the immediate dismissal and prosecution of those involved in the incident.
