Drilling contractor docked over alleged N1.5m fraud

A 28-year-old drilling contractor, Kolapo Eyitayo, on Thursday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged N1.5 million fraud.

Eyitayo, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in February 2024 at Oregun, Ibadan.

Owolabi alleged that the defendant collected the sum of N1.5 million from a complainant, one Mrs Adenike Akinwale, with a representation to help her drill a borehole.

He was alleged to have failed to execute the job but bolted with the money to a new location .

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was recently caught and handed over to the police.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 14, for mention. NAN
