THE House of Representatives primaries in Kurmin Sarki Ward, Suleja Local Government Area of Niger, was on Saturday characterised by delays and complaints over the late arrival of electoral materials.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise slated for early morning did not commence until about 1:00 p.m.
Party members and voters expressed concerns over the non-availability of election materials at several polling units.
In spite of these challenges, voters were seen in queues and undergoing accreditation for the commencement of voting.
Speaking with NAN, the ward councillor, Alhaji Yunusa Yakubu, said Umar Isah emerged victorious in the ward with 811 votes.
An APC stakeholder, Alhaji Yahaya Gwagwa, however, decried the conduct of the exercise in the ward.
He alleged that only the result of one contestant had been made available to party members, while results of other contestants had yet to be announced.
At Bagama ‘A’ Polling Unit, an eyewitness, Mr Abubakar Dawaki, alleged that no election was conducted at the unit.
Reacting to the allegations, the Secretary at the polling unit, Mr Shehu Aminu, said that the election was peacefully conducted.
He explained that there was minor challenges among supporters before electoral officials arrived, adding that the situation was later brought under control.
According to Aminu, a total of 800 accredited voters participated in the exercise at the polling unit.
He said Umar Isah secured 640 votes, while Adamu Tanko polled 25 votes and Abubakar Lado scored 60 votes.
Similarly, at Iko South 1 Polling Unit, the councillor, Alhaji Kabiru Audu, described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
He disclosed that 528 voters participated in the election at the polling units.
He said Umar Isah polled 260 votes, Adamu Tanko 80 votes, Abubakar Lado 130 votes, and Haruna Abubakar 28 votes.
As of the time of filing this report, the overall official results of the primary election were yet to be announced.(NAN)
