The All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election Committee in Borno State has declared the House of Representatives primary election for Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency inconclusive.
The Chairman of the committee, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, announced the decision while briefing journalists at the APC secretariat in Maiduguri on Sunday, May 17.
Erue said the committee made the decision after receiving a complaint from one of the aspirants, Audu Garba Zali.
According to him, the committee would not announce a final winner for the constituency until the appeal process is concluded.
He said the committee would await the appeal committee’s report before taking a final decision on the outcome of the primary.
Although the Askira-Uba/Hawul primary was declared inconclusive, the committee announced results for other federal constituencies in the state.
Erue said direct primaries were conducted in Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge and Maiduguri Metropolitan federal constituencies.
He said Mustapha Abdullahi emerged as the winner in Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge after polling 20,509 votes.
In Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency, Abdulkadir Rahis secured the APC ticket with 38,576 votes.
The committee also announced that five aspirants emerged through consensus arrangements in different federal constituencies across the state.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that those cleared through consensus included Usman Zanna for Magumeri/Kaga/Gubio Federal Constituency and Kaumi Umara Zulum for Dikwa/Konduga/Mafa Federal Constituency.
Others were Ahmed Satomi for Jere Federal Constituency; Ahmed Jaha for Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa Federal Constituency; and Fati Kakenna for Mobbar/Guzamala/Abadam/Kukawa Federal Constituency.
In another development, Bukar Talba secured the APC ticket for Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal Constituency after standing unopposed.
Similarly, Mukhtar Betara Aliyu was returned unopposed as the party’s candidate for Biu/Bayo/Kwaya Kusar/Shani Federal Constituency.
Betara, a ranking member of the House of Representatives, is among the prominent APC figures who secured return tickets in the state.
Erue said the committee monitored the APC primaries across the 27 local government areas and 312 wards in Borno State.
He added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies observed the exercise.
The committee chairman said the presence of INEC officials and security operatives formed part of efforts to ensure that the process was properly monitored and conducted in line with party guidelines.
The APC is expected to announce a final decision on the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency primary after the appeal committee reviews the complaint submitted by Zali.
