Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State have expressed concern over the late arrival of officials and materials for the party’s House of Representatives primary election in the state.
The primary election, initially scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, was later shifted to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Officials of the committee constituted by the party to conduct the exercise arrived in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, at about 2:40 pm on Saturday with the election materials, raising fears that distribution to the 168 wards across the state may be difficult to complete on time.
The committee reportedly arrived at the Danbaba Suntai Airport shortly before 2:00 pm and proceeded directly to Taraba Motel, where members of the APC State Working Committee (SWC) were waiting to receive the materials.
Confirming the arrival of the committee and election materials, the Director of Publicity of the APC in Taraba State, Mr Aaron Atimas, said the delay would not affect the conduct of the primary election.
However, some party members alleged that the late arrival of the materials could be part of a plan to manipulate the electoral process.
“Why are the election materials coming late? How can they take the materials to places like Gembu on the Mambilla Plateau, Kurmi, Takum, and Ibi? These are places that take over 10 hours to reach from Jalingo,” a party member, Jeremiah Ashu, queried.
Some stakeholders within the party have called on the APC leadership to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of the primaries across the state.
At the time of filing this report, the exercise had yet to commence in any part of the state, an action which some party faithful said is designed to favour some aspirants.
