Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will today, Saturday, 23rd May, 2026, participate in the party’s primary elections to choose their presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that about 14 million registered APC members will participate in the exercise set to hold across 8,809 wards nationwide.
Recently, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed that the party’s membership base had grown close to 14 million.
“We have over 13 million, we are heading to 14 million registered members of the party, out of the number, people between the age of 18 and 35 form roughly about 50% of our members, 49. 6% which means that we are the most youthful party in Nigeria,” Yilwatda said during the media chat.
The ruling party has President Bola Tinubu and Osifo Stanley as the only aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saliu Danladi, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Danladi polled over 94,000 votes to defeat 14 others who contested the primary election conducted on Friday and emerge as the APC governorship candidate in Kwara State for the 2027 elections.
The primary election was previously scheduled for Thursday, but was abruptly rescheduled for Friday with the APC leadership citing logistics reason.
The state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, had earlier reversed his choice of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and announced the Speaker as his preferred successor.
Danladi, who hails from Kwara North, contested the APC primary against the governor’s earlier choice and other aspirants and was declared the winner by the chairman of the primary election committee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Danladi polled 94,990 votes to beat his closest challenger, Amb. Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, who got 41,700 votes, and Dr Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, who polled 22,118.
