The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, says the scheme will continue to contribute to national growth and unity across the country.
Kubiangha said this on Friday on the sidelines of a celebration rally organised to mark the 53rd anniversary of the scheme in Osogbo.
He said that since its establishment in 1973, the NYSC had continued to promote national integration, discipline and selfless service among Nigerian youths.
According to him, the scheme has played significant roles in critical sectors of the economy, including education, healthcare, agriculture and community development.
”The roles of the NYSC in national growth and development are overwhelming and cannot be over-emphasised.
”The scheme has continued to foster peaceful coexistence, cultural integration and understanding among Nigerians from diverse ethnic backgrounds.”
Kubiangha commended the Federal Government and Osun Government for their support towards the successes recorded by the scheme in the state over the years.
The coordinator further appreciated members of staff for their commitment and tireless efforts toward the success of the scheme since its inception.
He advised corps members to remain disciplined, dedicated and committed to the ideals of the scheme.
He assured that the scheme would continue to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity and hard work towards the actualisation of the mandate for which it was established.
Earlier, Mrs Oluukola Abiodun, the South-West Director (1) of the scheme covering Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, commended the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Nafiu Olakunle, and other members of staffs for moving the scheme to greater heights.
Abiodun described the scheme as bridge connecting corps members from their backgrounds to the realities of life.
She urged the federal government to intensify support for the scheme with a view to achieving its established mandates.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
